Walk Eastwood Challenge

Eastwood is Syracuse’s most walkable neighborhood. To prove it, we’re walking all 99 streets, 43 miles of roads, this summer. And we’re challenging our neighbors to get out and walk every street in Eastwood with us starting April 1. Come join us and get to know Eastwood! Learn more at eastwoodneighbor.com/walk.

There are just over 43 miles of roads in Eastwood, a neighborhood encompassing just under 2 square miles. Eastwood contains over 4,500 homes and six official Parks. Yes, this walking challenge is partly about fitness and health, but even more it’s about getting outside, meeting each other, and getting to know the whole neighborhood - even parts you’ve never visited before. Encourage your friends and neighbors to join you and as you walk tag us on Facebook and Instagram and use #WalkEastwood.

Earth Day Neighborhood Cleanup

Saturday, April 22 - 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM - Mark your calendars!

Join Eastwood Neighborhood Association, Eastwood TNT, and Growing Good Works in an Earth Day Neighborhood Cleanup!

Meet at Luv Handlz on James Street at 10:00 AM to pick up gloves, trash bags, and tools. We'll fan out across Eastwood to pick up litter and beautify the neighborhood.

Volunteers return to Luv Handles at Noon for a pizza party and prize raffle!

Community Garden News

April 22 is also opening day for the Eastwood Community Garden, coinciding with Syracuse Grows’ Spring Resource Drive when Syracuse Grows distributes compost and mulch to member gardens. Some of our Earth Day volunteers will help the gardeners clean up the garden and spread mulch.

This growing season begins our 8th year at the Eastwood Community Garden. A great deal has happened in those eight years. The garden now has 25 raised beds which are pre-registered for the season to individuals and families, a beautiful planter bench built by Advocate Gardeners, a fence funded by a grant secured by Assemblyman William Magnarelli, a little free library donated by County Legislator Peggy Chase, and a fruit orchard planted by the Syracuse Parks Department.

At the end of last season, a large bed was installed to provide veggies for neighbors to be available at a newly erected farmstand. There is a new Little Free Library containing gardening, culinary, and healthy living books to be shared with passersby. Benches will soon be added for those who wish to relax and read.

Second Saturday Skate Sessions

ENA is partnering with Syracuse Parks & Rec to offer skills clinics for beginning skateboarders ages 8-13 on the second Saturday of each month, May - September. Dates: May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, and September 9; 

9:00AM – 11:00AM.

Come join us at the East Woods Skate Plaza for open skateboarding skills clinics on the second Saturday of each month. All skill levels are welcome. Skateboards available to borrow if needed. Padding and helmets encouraged.

More details in Parks’ 2023 Spring/Summer program guide. Online registration for Youth Clinics begins April 1 at 8 a.m. at syracuse.recdesk.com for City residents and April 15 for non-residents.

Eastwood Memorial Day Parade is back!

ENA is partnering with Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 to bring back the Eastwood Memorial Day Parade!

Mark your calendars for May 29.

The only Memorial Day Parade in the City of Syracuse! Parade starts at 9:00 AM at the Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (Nichols and James) and ends at Greenway Veterans' Memorial Park (2309 James St) with a Veterans' Memorial Ceremony. Bring your lawn chairs and set up anywhere along James Street to enjoy the parade!

If your group is interested in marching or driving in the parade, contact Jesse Harrington at 315-569-3722.

We are also looking for 13 volunteers (or 13 pairs if you want to volunteer with a friend) to help with traffic control along the route. Syracuse Police will manage traffic at major intersections, but at minor streets we need volunteers to set up barricades and, if needed, ask drivers to wait until the parade passes or go around the parade route.
