Guest Speakers Beth Crawford & David Rudd will speak on the Arts & Crafts movement’s deep roots in Central New York and its influence on the development of Eastwood, where Gustav Stickley’s first furniture factory was located. Beth Crawford is the lead designer on the ongoing restoration of Gustav Stickley’s house here in Syracuse (widely believed to be the first Arts & Crafts interior built in the U.S.) and a longtime Eastwood resident. David Rudd has owned and operated Dalton’s American Decorative Arts in Eastwood since 1980 and is a nationally respected expert on the history of Stickley and the Arts & Crafts movement.

Curb Appeal Contest

Curb Appeal is a friendly contest to acknowledge and celebrate neighbors who put extra effort into their homes, both large and small. There will be one winner per "quadrant" of Eastwood (quadrants defined by James and Midler) and a winner for best “multi-family” (2+ units). ENA members will vote for winners at the ENA Annual Meeting on October 30. Curb Appeal Nominees are posted here and lawn signs are up in front of each nominated house, so check out your favorites and get ready to vote! 

Sunnycrest Park Pathways + Mariani Garden Cleanup

Saturday, October 14, 10AM - Noon

Join us and get familiar with an Eastwood hidden gem - the stone steps, walls, and pathways at the northern end of Sunnycrest Park. Volunteers will:

• uncover overgrown brick pathways,

• pull weeds,

• spread mulch,

• pick up litter,

• trim back overgrowth,

• split and transplant hostas.

We’ll be focused on the area outlined in red in the image below, especially the Mariani Garden. Meet us at the Mariani Garden where Clifton dead-ends at the park to get supplies and instructions. Bringing your work gloves! 

Cider and donuts provided provided by SCSD Board of Education Commissioner Dan Romeo.

Learn more about the history of Sunnycrest Park here. We'll be focused on the northern end of the park, which retains many New Deal-era features.

ENA Bulb Giveaway

We still have daffodil and tulip bulbs! Pick them up from us at the Mariani Garden event described above between 10AM and Noon, Saturday, October 14. Or email info@eastwoodneighbor.com to make other arrangements.

Plymouth & Winthrop Tree Planting

Who: We need volunteers, Syracuse!
When: Thursday, October 26, 2023, 12 to 3 p.m.
Where: Plymouth Drive & Winthrop Road, 13206

Join Eastwood neighbors as we replant Plymouth Drive. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to sign up. No experience necessary. Tree planting locations have been identified.

Dress accordingly and expect to get dirty. Boots are recommended. Good shoes and white sneakers are not. Bring a water bottle. We will bring the trees, tools and everything else!

17th Annual Eastwood Five-Mile Run

Our greatest need is for corner monitors! The race is on an open course meaning it isn’t fully closed to vehicle traffic during the race. Corner monitors are assigned to an intersection on the course to help direct runners and traffic. This is crucial to providing a safe and enjoyable experience to all the runners that visit our neighborhood. With over 60 intersections on the course, we need lots of neighbors to help out with this task.

Other volunteer tasks include: 

• Packet pick-up on Saturday before the race

• Set-up on Saturday before the race

• Registration / packet pick-up on race day

• Parking attendant

• Bicyclists (to travel with runners)

• Post-race refreshments 

• Water stations

• Water and medals at finish line

• Clean up

Trick or Treat Map

A lot of folks have been talking about how to get Halloween Trick or Treaters to visit streets other than Forest Hill Drive. We have a fun new tool! If you plan to hand out candy on Halloween, enter your address here. www.eastwoodneighbor.com/halloween

We'll update the map every few days to include all recent entries. There's even a spot to enter "special notes" such as "this house will be handing out hot dogs" or "full size candy bars" or whatever special thing you want trick or treaters to know about your house.

Your name and contact info will not be made public, but we'll put your house on the map with any notes you want to include for the public. Hopefully Eastwood families can use this map to plan their trick or treating route and visit more of the neighborhood!

Halloween Decorations Contest

Vote here by Noon, Monday, October 30. You’ll have to upload a photo and enter the address of the home you’re voting for. Must sign in to Google to vote so that each user can only vote once.

Winner will be announced at the ENA Annual Meeting that night.

Sheridan Park Cookout & Cleanup a Success!

About 30 volunteers showed up at Sheridan Park Saturday, September 30 to spread wood chips beneath the playground, repaint a trash can, weed wack, pickup litter, and cut back massive amounts of overgrowth. I can’t believe how much they got accomplished! Thanks to Forward Point Church and Eastwood TNT for their help! 

Fifth District Common Councilor Jimmy Monto generously provided and grilled hot dogs for the volunteers.

ENA gave out tulips and daffodil bulbs to Eastwood residents.

Thanks to Syracuse Fire Department Station 17 for giving tours and hosting us!
