Eastwood Memorial Day Parade

ENA is partnering with Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 to bring back the Eastwood Memorial Day Parade! Mark your calendars for Monday, May 29. The parade starts at 9:00 AM at the Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (Nichols and James) and ends at Greenway Veterans' Memorial Park (James and Grant across from Walgreens) with a Veterans' Memorial Ceremony. Bring your lawn chairs and set up anywhere along James Street to enjoy the parade!

If your group is interested in marching or driving in the parade, contact Jesse Harrington at 315-569-3722.

We are looking for 3 more volunteers (or 3 pairs if you want to volunteer with a friend) to help with traffic control along the route. Syracuse Police will manage traffic at major intersections, but at minor streets we need volunteers to set up barricades and, if needed, ask drivers to wait until the parade passes or go around the parade route. The cost of the parade has increased significantly. We are looking to Eastwood neighbors and businesses to raise $1,500 to offset the cost of SPD traffic control. Please consider donating what you can. Every little bit helps. ENA is a 501c3 and your donations are tax-deductible. So far we have raised $915 of our $1,500 goal! You can donate:

Eastwood History & Notable Sites Map

Eastwood, "The Village Within The City," has a lot of interesting little tidbits of history, memories, and unique and interesting places - points of interest in a walkable, village-like setting. ENA board member, Donna Marra, has been hard at work mapping these points of interest! The map includes everything from little free libraries, to historic houses, to murals, and more. Click a point on the map and photos and additional info will pop up. Check it out!

Eastwood Beautification

ENA volunteers maintain several public flower beds throughout Eastwood. We have a few beds in need of adoption and a few existing gardeners that could use some helpers. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact beautification@eastwoodneighbor.com.

Earth Day Cleanup A Success

On April 22, over 100 volunteers picked up litter throughout the neighborhood and cleaned up the Community Garden and East Woods Skate Plaza for the spring. We are so proud of how many neighbors spent their Saturday giving back to Eastwood. Volunteers returned to Luv Handlz at noon for a pizza party, frozen yogurt, and prize raffle.

THANK YOU to the Cracked Bean Coffee Roastery for donating bags and gloves, Luv Handlz and Eastwood TNT for providing frozen yogurt, and Nav’s Popcorn for donating prizes. Community Garden Opening Day

Thanks to the 20 volunteers who came out to the Eastwood Community Garden on Earth Day, April 22, to help open the garden for its EIGHTH growing season! Many of the original raised beds, which were starting to rot, were rebuilt on Earth Day and the Advocates gardeners started planting a “community bed” outside of the fence that will grow produce to be given away to neighbors. More recently, a new work table was built and installed by the Advocates gardeners and a farmstand kiosk was built by Tim Gottschall. Watch for more garden updates on Facebook.

Walk Eastwood Challenge

Eastwood is Syracuse’s most walkable neighborhood. To prove it, we’re walking all 99 streets, 43 miles of roads, this summer. And we’re challenging our neighbors to get out and walk every street in Eastwood with us starting April 1. Come join us and get to know Eastwood! Learn more at eastwoodneighbor.com/walk.

Finish by the 17th Annual Eastwood Five-Mile Race to earn your Walk Eastwood Challenge t-shirt! Some people have already finished walking every street in Eastwood! But don’t worry, you have plenty of time to finish the challenge before October 22.

There are just over 43 miles of roads in Eastwood, a neighborhood encompassing just under 2 square miles. Eastwood contains over 4,500 homes and six official Parks. Yes, this walking challenge is partly about fitness and health, but even more it’s about getting outside, meeting each other, and getting to know the whole neighborhood - even parts you’ve never visited before. Encourage your friends and neighbors to join you and as you walk tag us on Facebook and Instagram and use #WalkEastwood.
