Eastwood Blood Drive a Success

According to the Red Cross, “every minute of every day, someone needs blood.” ENA helped the cause by hosting the RC Blood Mobile right here in Eastwood on August 6th. Almost 30 pints of blood were collected during the 4-hour blood drive on August 6th.

Thanks to all who supported the effort!

Annual Donation Appeal To Members

In lieu of annual membership dues, ENA now puts out an Annual Donation Appeal to its lifetime membership each September. These donations are extremely beneficial in supporting a growing number of ENA fundraising events and happenings (Eastwood Market Day, Eastwood in Bloom, Park-to Park Autumn Race, SK8 Jams, Community Golf Tournament, Red Cross Blood Drive, 5-Star Rental Program etc.). These annual donations also allow us to continually strive to improve our members’ quarterly newsletter and website as well help to defray their operational costs.

Your ongoing support and generosity, both monetary and the giving of your time, are greatly appreciated and insure that your neighborhood association will continue to grow stronger each year.

From this website, you can download a copy of the Annual Donation Appeal form and mail to ENA’s address given on the form.

Eastwood in Bloom Day is Sept. 25th!

ENA’s 5th “Eastwood in Bloom “day will be held on Saturday September 25th 2010. 2500 Daffodil and Tulip bulbs will be given away free to Eastwood residents at the Eastwood Community Center 401 S. Midler Ave from 10 am to 1pm.

Raffle Tickets for 8 prizes will be available for $1.00 for one (1) or 6 for $5.00 Prize winners to be drawn on Sept 25.

4th Annual Park-to-Park Autumn Run is October 17!

The Eastwood Park-to-Park Autumn Run is a 5-mile road race through the Eastwood neighborhood of Syracuse. This is the final race of SYRATHON 2010! Come see fall colors in Eastwood’s parks, test yourself on some challenging (but not too tough!) hills, and finish like an Olympian with a loop around the track at Sunnycrest Park. This will be a chip-timed race. The course is certified to be accurate by USATF (#NY-07075-JG).

Register: Pre-register by mailing the attached entry form or go to GetEntered.com to register online. Mail-in registrations must be post- marked by October 12. Online registration will be available through October 14. Race day registration will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 17 at the ice rink in Sunnycrest Park.

Packet Pick-up: Runners may pick up packets at Fleet Feet Sports (5800 Bridge Street, East Syracuse) between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16. Race-day packet pick-up will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the ice rink in Sunnycrest Park.

Shirts: T-shirts will be available for all pre-registered participants. T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for race-day registrants.

Post Race: Refreshments and awards in Sunnycrest Park near the finish line.

Awards: First place male and female runners along with the top runner in each age group will receive an award. No duplication. Age groups will be 14 and under, 15-19, and 10-year increments from age 20 to age 70 and older.

Parking and facilities: Free parking is available at Sunnycrest Rink, Henninger High School, and the Sunnycrest Golf Course Clubhouse. Restrooms are available in the ice rink.

Other notes: No strollers, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, pets, or headphones allowed. Walkers are welcome but please line up behind the runners at the start line.

Kickoff of Eastwood 5-Star Rental Program

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, along with representatives from the Eastwood Neighborhood Association, Home HeadQuarters and Pathfinder Bank will announce the kickoff of the Eastwood 5-Star Rental Program on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, 11am, at the home of a program participant at 248-250 Mildred Avenue in Eastwood.

The Eastwood 5-Star Rental Program provides low interest property improvement loans to investors in the Eastwood neighborhood while providing quality tenant outreach and marketing opportunities to the participating investor. Landlords who enroll in the 5-Star Program can take advantage of many marketing, technical assistance and networking benefits while helping to improve the quality of rental properties in the Eastwood neighborhood.

The City of Syracuse is providing the interest buy-down for the Home HeadQuarters’ loan of up to $10,000 to 3.99% for eligible participants. Pathfinder Bank is providing the loan capital for the program. The Eastwood Neighborhood Association is enrolling landlords into the program and providing the tenant outreach, technical assistance and marketing.

Green Thumb News

Many Thanks from the Green Thumb Committee and TNT Beautification Committee to all involved with the annual “Eastwood Spring Cleanup ” event on April 17th. A smaller then usual turnout due to the inclement weather did not diminish the enjoyment of refreshments provided by ENA and Steve Skinner.

The Eastwood Neighborhood Association is again taking part in the annual Memorial Day Parade organized by the Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 and we hope Eastwoodites come out to honor our Veterans .

Parade date————— Monday May 31st

The Parade starts at the Legion Post on James St & Nichols Ave

Raising of the Flag ceremony—————8:30am

Lineup of participants ————————–8:45

Start of the parade——————————-9:00am

A wreath laying ceremony will follow at the Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of James St &Grant Blvd

The Green Thumb committee will again pass out balloons en route and at the memorial ceremony.

The City Dpw has again agreed to hang the American Flags purchased by the Eastwood Neighborhood Association with funds raised through our Park to Park Autumn Race .

Our James St planters will also once again put a little beauty onto James St .and the committee is looking for

some volunteers to help us keep these planters watered throughout the summer.

Clean Up Day is April 17!

Help clean-up one of Eastwood’s main streets OR get some neighbors together and clean your own block. Either way, sign-up before 9:00 A.M. at the Eastwood Community Center to get special stickers for your trash bags and return to the Center later for free lunch at about 11:30.
